Prague November 2005

Home Up

Prague is a delight for photographers. Take plenty of film (and/or spare memory) when you visit its fascinating architecture, and the river Vltava which draws all visitors like a magnet. It is difficult to do full justice to Prague castle, which dominates the city from its elevated position,  as an amateur photographer - I wanted to spend a week there with unlimited lighting equipment and a crane to get me into the best positions!

The parks were lovely places to stroll through, even in November. Petrin park with its scale model of the Eiffel tower had several types of crow including the colourful jay, and  there I had my first ever glimpse of a red squirrel in the wild. Letenske park had glorious views along the river, and Vyšehrad also, with the imposing church of St. Peter and St. Paul and its graveyard containing the tombs of such famous Czechs as Smetana and Dvorák.

A tip: try to keep a wide-angle lens to hand for interiors and for the many occasions when you can't seem to get far enough away from a building for that ideal shot.

The shots below are but a tiny sample. The first five were taken with the Sony DCR-HC90, the remaining four with the Fuji Finepix S5000
