In June 2003 we stayed at the Tropicana Grand Oasis hotel just south of the airport. It was a superb location, with access to its own part of the reef. Off the pontoon the water was just 3 metres deep, but shelved to much greater depths quite quickly. Due to its location, it was nearly always protected from the current down the gulf, and offered calm snorkelling with beautiful corals and a profusion of fish.
